Keep Your Faith Tank Full
As a teenager riding around in my 1960 Pontiac Bonneville, a two-door coupe with long, Cadillac tail lights, I felt cool! The car’s white-rolled, pleated-leather interior and blue lights in my fender wells were something to behold. The metallic, midnight-blue, special paint job added to this classic show car. The only problem was, I kept running out of gas. With teenagers, some things never seem to change! My dad was a brilliant businessman and even though I didn’t always listen to his advice, he taught me one thing that has been proven true throughout the years. He said, “It’s just as easy to keep your gas tank between three-quarters and full as it is to keep it between one-quarter and empty.” Unfortunately, many who attempt to run off the top quarter of the tank instead of the bottom quarter of the tank see everything below three-quarters as a safety net, which is why they also postpone getting fuel, and eventually run out anyway. In life, concerning our faith, we should have the mentality of keeping the tank full, and when we see it get down to three-quarters full, fill it up again. In other words, we should continually keep our faith tank full by daily filling ourselves with the Word.
The Bible is your gas station for faith and hope.
If you only fill your tank on Sunday, you may be nearing empty by Thursday. You cannot afford to take a vacation from maintaining your faith. It must be a lifestyle--not an event. Faith comes by hearing and hearing (Romans 10:17). Faith does not come by having heard. It must be continuous.Let me encourage you to fill up today! If you keep your faith tank topped off with God’s Word, you’ll enjoy a smoother ride over the bumps on the road of life.
