Jesus Didn’t Pray for Healing. Here’s What He Did Instead…

It’s important to understand that you are a three-part being; you are a spirit, you have a soul (your mind, will, and emotions), and you live in your body.

God created us in a way that you, the spirit, would be in control of the other parts. God made it so the spirit is not only to dominate the body, but also that the contents of our spirit would affect our body. In the beginning of creation, God created man in His image and likeness. Then in Genesis 2, we see something extraordinary take place.

And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being (Genesis 2:7 NKJV).

God not only created man to act like Him, look like Him, and think like Him, God also designed and called man to live like Him— and then gave man the equipment to make it possible: the life of God. The Bible tells us that God breathed life into man and man became a living being. I want to point out that man’s body was lying dormant and inactive; there was no motion, no activity, and no life produced from the body until the life of God entered. God placed man’s spirit, which was filled to the full of eternal life, into the body of man. As soon as the life of God entered the body, the body became alive. Notice that the body responded to the spirit—not the other way around.

Friend, God designed your body to be a slave to you as a spirit! Your body can’t fully do its job without the life of God. Your body is instinctively trying to heal itself, but for your body to work the way God designed for it to work, it needs that heavenly substance flowing in every cell of your being. We have already seen how Adam lost the life of God and how Jesus came to get it back for us. Let’s look at some examples with Jesus. Then, I want you to see what the Word of God has to say about this wonderful life from Heaven that resides in you as a spirit.

Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans. Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” The woman said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water? Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?” Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life” (John 4:9-14 NKJV).

As Jesus is speaking with the Samaritan woman, He makes a statement about healing that most people miss. Jesus says, “The water I give will become in him a fountain springing up into everlasting life.” Jesus is talking about the life of God here; there are three nuggets I want you to see in this statement. Number one, Jesus said, “The water I give.” This spiritual substance was something Jesus was giving to us. This wasn’t something that would be given repeatedly; this was a one-time gift. Number two, this spiritual substance was not a gift to be placed in your hands; this was something to be placed into your spirit. Number three, this substance in your spirit would be a continual fountain from which life would flow!

He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water (John 7:38 NKJV).

Believe in me so that rivers of living water will burst out from within you, flowing from your innermost being, just like the Scripture says! (John 7:38 TPT)

Jesus is not only talking about salvation, but also about divine health. The plan of God was that through salvation, the life of God would flow into us as a spirit and be a continual flow of healing and health into our body and into others. This was God’s plan in the Garden of Eden and the plan has never changed. Remember, God put this life into Jesus, and Jesus came so we could experience this life abundantly!

Friend, here is a powerful revelation for you: as a Christian, you no longer have to ask God to heal you! Don’t believe me? Let’s look at more Scripture! In Ephesians 1, the apostle Paul gives us a prayer he prayed continually for the Church.

Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come (Ephesians 1:15-21 NKJV).

Paul prayed for God to give us one thing: revelation. Why? Because Paul wanted us to understand what God had already given us. What was one of the things God had already given us through our union with Christ? The same power that raised Jesus from the dead! We also see it in Romans 8:11.

But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you (Romans 8:11 NKJV).

Again, where is this power? In you as a spirit. You don’t need to figure out what steps and keys you need to perform to get God to release it from Heaven—this life is in you! Romans 8:11 is not talking about resurrection from the dead. You don’t need life for your mortal body when you die! Do you understand why? Because God is giving you an immortal body after you die! Your mortal body needs life while you are on the earth, and all the medicine you could ever need has been deposited into you as a spirit when you said, “Jesus, I receive You as my Lord and Savior!”

When you were united to Christ, God deposited Himself into you. The life that flows in Him right now has been poured out in abundance in you. So instead of trying to get God to give you healing, you need a revelation of the reality that the healing power you need is in you right now. It’s actually been a little mind-boggling to me how we have had revelation of God being in us but thought He left His healing power in Heaven. You can’t separate God and His power! You can’t separate Him and His life.

How could He be in you and yet all His stuff still be in Heaven? I like to put it like this: when God moved into you, He brought the entire moving truck! Do you realize that’s scriptural? Ephesians 1:3 (NKJV) says, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.” Everything Heaven has to offer became ours in Christ. Where is Christ? In you! Stop asking God to heal you, and start asking God for revelation of the life of God in you.

This powerful truth is so simple that we’ve overlooked it all these years, and yet it’s all throughout Scripture. The power flowed out of Jesus’ spirit! We see the life of God flowing out of Jesus during His earthly ministry. In Mark 5, we find the woman with the issue of blood trying to get to Jesus. Apparently, people had begun to understand that if they could just touch Jesus, they could be healed.

When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.” Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction. And Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that power had gone out of Him, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My clothes?” (Mark 5:27-30 NKJV)

Where did the power come from? It came out of Jesus. This life was in Jesus’ spirit, and faith pulled it out. The life of God flowed out of Jesus’ spirit, through His body, and into the woman! Did you notice Jesus never prayed for God to heal anyone? I dare you to find one time when Jesus prayed for God to open the blind eyes, heal the deaf ears, raise the dead, etc. Jesus never prayed for God to give Him the power, to get more anointed, or any of the other religious things many of us do. Jesus understood that the life of God was in His spirit and He could give it away whenever He needed to. Over time, people during Jesus’ earthly ministry began to figure this out!

And He came down with them and stood on a level place with a crowd of His disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem, and from the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear Him and be healed of their diseases, as well as those who were tormented with unclean spirits. And they were healed. And the whole multitude sought to touch Him, for power went out from Him and healed them all (Luke 6:17-19 NKJV).

Again, where did the power come from? It came out of Jesus; this means it had to be in Jesus’ spirit, and we know that it was because John 1:4 says, “In Him was life.” The same life that flowed in the Father was the same life that flowed in Jesus.

For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself (John 5:26 NKJV).

Where was the life? In Him. The life of God was in Jesus’ spirit, and at the moment faith was released, the life of God flowed from Jesus’ spirit and out of His body. There was no need for Jesus to pray for God to heal anyone when God had already given Jesus the life to release for healing. This is why it’s so important to understand who you are and what you have in Christ. Don’t ever judge what you can do by what you can see. When you understand what you have in you as a spirit, you’ll never question your ability to stand before sickness, disease, or death.

Don’t ever confuse your possession with your situation. Do you understand what I mean? You must know that the life of God you possess in you as a spirit is far greater than any circumstances you are facing. Smith Wigglesworth used to say, “I’m a thousand times bigger on the inside than I am on the outside!”

Every time Jesus laid His hands on someone, the life of God flowed out of His spirit and into the person. Now let me ask you a question. Since the life of God was flowing out of Jesus’ body, don’t you think it was affecting Jesus’ body too? Yes, it certainly was! Did you notice Jesus never was sick on the earth? It wasn’t because He was the Son of God; it was because the life of God was flowing continually in His body. Friend, the life of God in your spirit is certainly there to release into other people’s bodies, but it is also there for you. Remember, you’ve got a well of life always flowing in you, ready to release into your body. It truly is the answer for divine health. Smith Wigglesworth said, “It is nothing less than the life of the Lord Himself imparted and flowing into our whole beings, so that our very body is quickened, so that every tissue and every drop of blood and our bones and joints and marrow receive this divine life.”
