The Bloodline Lie—Why Generational Curses Have No Power Over You

Because of a lack of understanding our union with Christ, it has led to errors in teachings regarding healing; one of these errors is the topic of generational curses and redeeming your bloodline.

I have heard it come up time and time again from Christians who say, “I’m really concerned that the sickness I am dealing with is a generational curse that I need to break.”

Where do people get this idea? Well, they aren’t getting it from the Bible! They are getting it from people trying to sell books and make people dependent on the preacher. It is just another teaching that lowers what redemption and our union with Christ truly is all about. If you teach people about generational curses, it is because you have no clue about your union with Christ.

Friend, you cannot teach new-creation realities and yet teach on generational curses.

The issue of generational curses has no scriptural truth whatsoever for the Christian, but there are tons of teaching videos and books on it. Sadly, they are based on this one scripture found in Exodus.

You shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me (Exodus 20:5 NKJV).

First of all, notice this is written to the Israelites and is part of the Law of Moses—so this is not written to the Christian. However, just because this was written under the law to the Israelites and not to the believer, it has not stopped people from trying to peddle lies to the believer. So what are believers told to do if their disease is because of a generational curse? Well, they are taught that you need to redeem your bloodline because, according to them, diseases come down through your bloodline.

Can I just be real with you? This makes no sense at all when you look at it from the lens of redemption. Let’s just lay out the scriptural facts.

  1. When you get born again, God becomes your Father (1 John 4:4).

  2. We have been redeemed from the curse of the law (Galatians 3:13).

  3. I am in union with Jesus (John 17:20).

These three things alone make it impossible for me to have a generational curse. But let’s just focus on one of them: God is my Father. Friend, if God is your Father, what bloodline do you have that needs to be redeemed? How could I have a generational curse when my ancestry is one step away from Him? It is absolutely impossible to have a generational curse and be in Christ.

The teaching about the need to redeem your bloodline is from the pit of hell itself. It has no scriptural foundation and is simply designed to make you step outside of your union with Christ, step out of grace, and step back into works. It is basically saying that what Jesus did through redemption isn’t enough.

Friend, Jesus redeemed your bloodline when He redeemed you. Jesus’ past is now your past, and God the Father is the beginning of your bloodline. Leave the issue of generational curses for the sinner. The sinner absolutely needs to get their bloodline redeemed so that disease stops flowing. How do they do that? They need to get disconnected from the first Adam and connected to the glorified Christ.

When you receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you become one with Christ, redeemed, and completely free of the curse. For the Christian, the righteous one, there is no possibility of a generational curse. How could you have a generational curse when God is your Father? The only thing you have running through your bloodline is a generational blessing: life.

Satan Isn’t Trespassing on Your Body

A statement I have often heard when Christians are sick is some- thing along these lines: “Satan is simply trespassing on my body and I’m taking my authority over him.” It’s a common belief that satan is trespassing on our bodies when sickness and disease come. Well, what does trespassing really mean? Trespassing simply means to enter someone’s property without their permission. So then my question is this, “Is it possible for satan to trespass in your life?” The answer is simple: emphatically no!

Let’s go back to the Garden of Eden and look at the very first appearance of satan.

Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’” Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. (Genesis 3:1-6 NKJV).

Anyone that knows me knows that I am very black and white when it comes to the way I see things. I believe in being simple and to the point. So let me ask you: can you please show me where satan tres- passed against Eve? Did satan make Eve do anything? Did he make her sin? Did he make her eat of the tree? No. Why? Because he had no authority over her to do anything.

I want you to notice this. Satan had no control over her because Eve was righteous. This temptation took place before sin had entered into the world; as a result, Eve had perfect standing with God and was just like God (Genesis 1:28). Satan could not make Eve do any- thing; as a result, he had to tempt her.

Because of sin, everyone who was born after Adam and Eve was born into sin and the flow of death. Satan could do whatever he wanted to do to those who did not have a covenant with God. Satan was the master, and the people were his slaves. You see this with sinners and especially those who are demon possessed. Satan isn’t tempting them; he just overpowers them and does it. Why? They are slaves to sin.

However, we don’t see this happen with the next righteous man in the Bible: Jesus. When Jesus was in the wilderness for forty days, satan came to tempt Jesus.

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’” Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: ‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’ and ‘In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’” Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’” Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.” Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’” Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him (Matthew 4:1-11 NKJV).

So, I’ve got a question for you: where did satan trespass against Jesus? I’ll wait.

Oh, that’s right. Satan couldn’t make Jesus do anything. If satan can just trespass and do whatever he wants without our permission, why didn’t he make Jesus turn the rocks into bread? Why didn’t satan just push Jesus off the temple? Why didn’t satan make Jesus worship him? Let’s take it a step further: why didn’t satan just kill Jesus right there if he could do whatever he wanted to do? Why didn’t satan ever trespass against Jesus’ body and make Him sick?

It is still the same answer as it was with Eve: satan cannot trespass against a righteous person. Righteous people are masters over satan; he can’t do whatever he wants because he must have our permission. Now this is where people get religious and say, “Well, that was Jesus.” Well, first of all, what about Adam and Eve? Second, if you want to go with the stance that satan couldn’t do anything to Jesus because he was Jesus—that works for me. Because when we begin to identify with Jesus, then it puts you in the same position where satan can’t do anything to you without your permission too!

This is why satan is referred to in the New Testament as a liar (John 8:44), deceiver (Revelation 12:9), and tempter (Matthew 4:3). All satan can do to the believer is bring thoughts, ideas, and suggestions.
