Jesus’ Resurrection Power Lives in You!

And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you (Romans 8:11).

Smith Wigglesworth was an evangelist in the late 1800s and early 1900s, and he was a wild guy.

One time, he walked into a funeral to find the dead body surrounded by people crying and mourning. To everyone’s shock, Wigglesworth took the body out of the open casket and slammed it against the wall. He said, “In the name of Jesus Christ, walk!” The body fell lifeless to the floor. He picked it up again and said, “In the name of Jesus Christ, walk!” Again, the body fell to the floor. For the third time, he grabbed the body and threw it against the wall, shouting, “I said, ‘In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk!’” Sure enough, the man came back to life, took a huge breath, and stood up and walked. He was raised from the dead. Wigglesworth would go on to raise at least thirteen other people from the dead. He understood what the Bible says in Romans 8:11:

And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.

The resurrection of Jesus from the dead is not just a cool story. It is a living example for believers that we can live a powerful life. Our Savior isn’t dead; He’s alive. Not even death is more powerful than Jesus Christ. But this resurrection power isn’t just for Jesus; it is also for us. That same resurrection power now lives in you. If you become sick, confess over yourself that you have resurrection power living on the inside. When you are struggling to get something done in school or to find the motivation you need, believe that you have resurrection power living on the inside.

Some people might think it’s crazy to believe that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead now dwells in us—but that is exactly what the Bible says. You might wonder, “Gabe, does that mean I never have to die?” Well, here is the thing: We can only believe God for what He says. Even though we have resurrection power living in us, we still have a limited amount of time here on earth before we go to heaven. But if something happens and it’s looking like we might be leaving this earth early, we can absolutely believe in God to keep us alive.

Declaration

Father, I thank You that Jesus lives inside of me. I have resurrection power dwelling on the inside. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead now lives in me. Greater is He who lives in me than he who is in the world. Nothing is impossible for God. All things are possible.

The Anointing

The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor… (Luke 4:18).

Some people, when they hear the word anointing, might think of oil, but anointing actually represents a special ability or grace. You can kind of compare it to a boost-up in a video game. That boost-up gives you something special that you didn’t have before. Jesus, after He was baptized in the Jordan River, said:

The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight to the blind, to set the oppressed free (Luke 4:18).

Jesus is an example to believers still living on this earth. The Bible says, “This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus” (1 John 4:17). The same Holy Spirit who anointed Jesus at the Jordan River was given to us when we received the baptism of the Holy Spirit earlier in this devotional. You are not some lowly worm in the dirt. You are a child of God filled with the same Holy Spirit as Jesus Christ. Just as God anointed Jesus, He has now anointed you and sent you into this world. About the anointing of Jesus, the Bible says:

How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him (Acts 10:38).

This anointing from God applies to our gifts and passions. For example, I love sports, so whenever I played in a football game, I would confess over myself, “I am anointed to play football for the glory of God.” One time, during halftime, one of my non-Christian teammates walked up to me and said he saw Jesus through the way I played. That is no coincidence. I challenge you to realize the gifts and passions you have and start confessing over your life that you are anointed, and you are called.

Declaration

Father, thank You for giving me the special ability to live life for Your glory. Thank You for the breath in my lungs. Thank You for anointing me. Thank You for calling me. Greater are You, living inside me, than he who is in the world. Reveal to me today the gifts and passions that You want me to pursue. Open up my eyes so that I can see opportunities the way You see them. Open up my heart and eyes so that I can understand everything You are doing in my life. When people praise me, I will be sure to always praise You. I am the light of the world. I have what the world so desperately needs.
