God Will Fight for You! How to Stand in Faith When Life Falls Apart
Excerpted from Abundant Life 365.
The Lord will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways (Deuteronomy 28:7).
Victory is a promise.
This verse doesn’t say that enemies won’t come against you—it says that when they do, they won’t succeed. God Himself guarantees that any opposition that rises up will be defeated.
In the Old Covenant, Israel’s enemies were literal nations and armies that sought to destroy them. But under the New Covenant, our battles are often spiritual. Ephesians 6:12 reminds us that we don’t wrestle against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces of darkness. That means this promise isn’t just about physical battles—it applies to any attack that comes against your life, whether it’s fear, sickness, financial struggle, opposition at work, or any other challenge.
The phrase “flee before you seven ways” is significant. In Hebrew culture, seven represents completeness or totality. This means that when God defeats your enemies, it won’t be a partial victory—it will be complete! The things that once tried to stop you will be scattered in every direction, powerless to hold you back.
So, what does this look like in daily life? It means that no matter what challenge you’re facing, you don’t have to fight alone. When you stand in faith, trusting in what Jesus has already done, the battle is the Lord’s. The attacks of the enemy cannot prevail against a child of God who stands on His promises.
No matter what opposition comes your way, remember this: the victory has already been won through Jesus. Stand firm, knowing that the Lord fights for you, and the enemy has no choice but to flee!
Authority, Purpose, and Dominion
And have made us kings and priests to our God; and we shall reign on the earth (Revelation 5:10).
God’s plan for His people has always been one of authority, purpose, and dominion. This verse declares that through Christ, we have been made kings and priests—positions of both spiritual leadership and divine access. We are not meant to live powerless or defeated lives but to walk in the victory and authority that Jesus has secured for us.
As kings, we are called to rule, not in arrogance, but with wisdom and stewardship over what God has entrusted to us. Romans 5:17 says, “For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.” We reign by His grace, not our own strength, exercising faith, authority, and influence in the world around us.
As priests, we have direct access to God, no longer needing an earthly mediator. In the Old Testament, priests stood be- tween God and the people, offering sacrifices on their behalf. But through Jesus, we have been brought into full, unrestricted relationship with the Father. Hebrews 4:16 encourages us to “come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” This means we can approach God with confidence, anytime, knowing that He hears us.
Reigning in life doesn’t mean living without challenges, but it does mean walking in the abundant life Christ has given—one marked by victory, purpose, and divine authority. You are not just getting by; you have been positioned to reign! Step into that identity and walk confidently in all He has called you to be.
The Lord Will Fight for You
The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace (Exodus 14:14).
When the Israelites stood at the edge of the Red Sea with the Egyptian army closing in, fear threatened to overwhelm them. But Moses reminded them of a powerful truth—this battle was not theirs to fight! God Himself would deliver them, and their role was to trust and remain at peace.
How often do we find ourselves striving to fix our problems, worrying over solutions, or battling in our own strength? Yet God’s promise remains the same: He is the one who fights for us. Our job is to stand firm in faith. 2 Chronicles 20:17 echoes this powerful promise: “You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord.” The greatest victories come when we surrender control and let God move on our behalf.
Holding your peace doesn’t mean doing nothing—it means refusing to give in to fear, anxiety, or doubt. Isaiah 26:3 says, “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.” When we trust in God’s faith- fulness, we can rest, knowing that He is working even when we can’t see it.
The abundant life is not about struggling through every battle—it’s about walking in the victory that God has already won for you! If you are facing a situation that feels impossible, take a step back and remember: the Lord is fighting for you. Stand in faith, hold your peace, and watch Him make a way where there seems to be none.
His Faithfulness Ensures the Victory
But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one (2 Thessalonians 3:3).
God’s faithfulness is unwavering. No matter what challenges arise, He remains steadfast in His commitment to protect, strengthen, and uphold His children. This verse is a powerful reminder that we are not left to fend for our- selves—God is actively guarding us and securing our steps.
To be established means to be firmly set, strengthened, and made unshakable. When we build our lives on God’s truth, He establishes us in His will, ensuring that we stand strong no matter what comes against us. Psalm 37:23-24 assures us, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the Lord upholds him with His hand.” Even in times of uncertainty, God is positioning us for victory!
Beyond establishing us, He also guards us. The enemy may try to attack, but he can’t win against those who are protected by the Lord. Isaiah 54:17 declares, “No weapon formed against you shall prosper.” This does not mean that difficulties won’t come, but it does mean that they will not succeed. Whether it is an attack against your health, finances, relationships, or any other part of your life, the enemy simply can’t have a victory that has already been promised to you!
If you’ve been feeling vulnerable or uncertain, let this verse encourage you. You are not alone in the battle—God is both your foundation and your shield. Trust in His faithfulness, stand firm in His promises, and walk with confidence, knowing that He is protecting and establishing you every step of the way.
Surrender Creates Success
So he answered and said to me: “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,” says the Lord of hosts (Zechariah 4:6).
Success in God’s kingdom does not come through human effort alone—it comes by His Spirit. This verse was spoken to Zerubbabel, the governor of Judah, who faced
the overwhelming task of rebuilding the temple after Israel’s exile. God’s message to him was clear: the work would not be accomplished through human strength, strategy, or resources, but by the power of the Holy Spirit.
How often do we try to force things to happen in our own strength? Many people rely on their skills, connections, or sheer determination to succeed, only to find themselves exhausted and frustrated. But God’s way is different. Psalm 127:1 reminds us, “Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it.” The abundant life is not about striving—it is about surrendering to the Spirit’s power.
This truth applies to every challenge we face. Whether it’s fulfilling our calling, overcoming obstacles, or walking in victory, the answer is not in human effort but in divine empowerment. Acts 1:8 declares, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you.” The strength we need comes from Him, not from ourselves!
If you have been relying on your own abilities, shift your focus. God is not asking you to accomplish everything in your own power—He is asking you to trust His Spirit. The victory you seek, the breakthrough you need, and the calling you are meant to fulfill will come, not by might nor by power, but by His Spirit.
