A Prayer for Forgiveness

Father, forgive us the wrongs we have done as we ourselves release forgiveness to those who have wronged us.

You have graciously forgiven me, and because of Your love and forgiveness, I choose to graciously forgive others in the depths of Christ’s love.

Because of Your great love, I’m asking You for the grace to walk out the decision to forgive. Father, I choose to forgive the betrayal of even my intimate friends—those with whom I once worshiped in unity as one.

As a follower of Jesus, I choose to love my enemy and bless the one who curses me. Holy Spirit, show me something wonderful that I can do for the one who hates me. Rather than reacting, I choose to respond to the very ones who persecute me by praying for them.

Father, not only will I pray for ____________, but I set myself to treat him/her well (do good and act nobly toward him/her). I will be merciful, sympathetic, tender, responsive, and compassionate toward ________, even as You are, Father.

My desire is to be an imitator of You, and I can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens me.

Father, thank You that I have great peace in this situation, for I love Your law and refuse to take offense toward __________.

Jesus, I am blessed—happy [with life—joy and satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation apart from outward conditions] and to be envied because I take no offense in You and refuse to be hurt or resentful or annoyed or repelled or made to stumble, whatever may occur.

And now, Father, I roll this work upon You—commit and trust it wholly to You; and I believe that You will cause my thoughts to become in agreement to Your will, and so my plans shall be established and succeed. In Jesus’ name, amen.
