4 Essential Prayers for Parents: Equipping Your Kids to Walk in Their God-Given Calling

Godly Focus in Crazy Times

Father, we are living in crazy times that only seem to get crazier! While intense worldly propaganda comes at my children from every angle, I pray they choose to take hold of Your Word with all their hearts and keep Your commands. I pray that my children will seek first Your kingdom and Your way of doing and being right. Holy Spirit, I ask You to relentlessly pursue                               and reveal to him/her the wisdom of God that is gained through knowledge and understanding.

Father, I thank You that                               hears the voice of wisdom, and wisdom imparts understanding. Your wisdom will make him/her prudent and wise. At times                               can be foolish, but You say in Your Word that we can receive understanding that will change our inner being.

The meaning of Your words will release revelation in                               so he/she can reign in this life as the sons and daughters of God you have made him/her to be. Wisdom will never lead                               astray and will keep him/her far from the lawlessness so prevalent in this world. The words of wisdom are trustworthy and do not contain twisted logic or perversion of the truth but words which are shrewd and intelligent and will give to                               living understanding to devise a plan for his/her life according to kingdom principles.

I declare today that                               not only desires understanding and wisdom but pursues them; for wisdom is priceless and exceeds the value of anything the world can offer.

His Sheep Know His Voice

Father, I ask You to create within                              ’s heart a desire to read Your Word that he/she might really come to know You. I declare that                               will listen with an open heart and receive progressively more revelation until he/she abounds with understanding. Thank You for sharpening their spiritual hearing so their ears are open to hear all You would teach them by the Holy Spirit who reveals the words of Jesus to them.

I pray my children will be enriched in the reality of knowing Jesus Christ and embrace Him as Lord in all they do.

May                               continually long to know the wonders of Jesus and experience the same power that raised Jesus from the dead. May                               always hear and know and recognize when You, the Good Shepherd, speaks and leads him/ her. Your Word says Your sheep know Your voice, and, therefore,                               hears Your voice. The voice of a stranger he/she never follows.                               delights in You and follows the steps You have ordered for his/her life. The Word is a flashlight to                               that illuminates his/her path, and the Spirit of God—the Guide inside—leads                              by the inward witness in all the affairs of life.

I thank You and praise You because You always do abundantly more than I could ever I ask, think, or imagine in behalf of my children. May our lives bring You glory, forever and ever. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The Good Life

Father, as I train up my children according to Your ways, I believe that they will dedicate themselves to You. They won’t know everything the future holds for them, but they will know it is in Your hands. They will take paths you have prepared ahead of time—living the good life that You prearranged and made ready for them. They will trust You to lead them and be their Guide for life.

Lord, I trust You to prepare my children now for Your plans for them. Give them the wisdom to discern the right timing for what You would have them do in each season of life. Open their eyes to see and appreciate the gifts, talents, and skills that can be developed into a career that brings glory to You.

If college is in their future, help them select the right one and provide the means for them to go. Give them understanding so they are quick to learn. Inspire them and help them in everything they do. If they choose to marry someday, thank You for preparing them and also their future spouse. Until that time comes, help them to be content in life.

Father, I believe You will plant vision in their hearts and teach them to depend upon You for provision. Instruct and teach them which way to go. You have promised to make a clear path as they put You first. As my children read, meditate, and apply Your Word, their ways will become prosperous. They will deal wisely and have good success. I believe my children will treasure their life with and for You. Thank You, Father, for holding my children’s future in the palm of Your hand. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

Blessed with Favor

Father, You make Your face to shine upon my children, and You smile on them. You are gracious, kind, and merciful to                              , whom You have made the head and not the tail, above and not underneath. Thank You for blessing my children!

seeks first Your kingdom and finds delight in good, and because                               is Your beloved child, You extend favor, honor, and love to him/her. You are pouring out upon                               the spirit of favor until his/her cups runs over, and You crown                               with glory and honor, for he/she is Your child—Your workmanship, Your masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus. I pray that my child keeps Your Word in the midst of his/her heart and acquires a reputation for good, sound judgment and common sense.

is a success today—strong, wise, and blessed by You. He/she is growing in You—waxing strong in spirit. Father, You give                              knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom. You make                               to find favor, compassion, and loving-kindness with everyone who comes across my child’s path.

obtains favor in the sight of all who look upon him/her.                               is filled with Your fullness—rooted and grounded in love. You are doing exceedingly abundantly above all that I ask or think, for Your mighty power is overtaking                              .

Thank You, Father, that my child is well-favored by You and by all people. In Jesus’ name, amen.
