Kenneth Copeland: ‘This is Your Breakthrough Weapon’
Excerpted from If Satan Can’t Steal Your Joy.
Jerry picked me up in his $187.50, 1964 model 98 Oldsmobile one very cold morning, and I said, “Jerry, turn on the heater.”
Jerry said, “Brother Copeland, it’s on full blast.”
So, I released my faith by shouting, “HEAT!” Then, I slapped the dashboard.
Heat came!
The joy came when Jerry said, “Slap it again; the transmission slips too!”
From that day on, Jerry would do the unexpected in our meetings by bringing joy everywhere we went— sharing stories and one-liners that cracked everyone up!
If Satan Can’t Steal Your Joy
Jerry Savelle
An example of Jerry’s humor is the famous canoe story from his famous message, “The Law of Progression” (which can easily be watched online): “upstream, downstream, paddling as hard as he could,” in his imaginary canoe.
In my mind’s eye, along with everyone else, I could see the canoe and the paddle. After about the third or fourth time across the platform, everyone was laughing so hard no one could hang on to the worry, anxiety, and trouble the thief had placed on their hearts and minds.
Now we were all ready to receive what he was referring to in the refrigerator story. It happened again, but it brought great joy and refuge in “the sweet by and by.” It reminded me of the rest of the story, “But I need one in the rotten here and now!”
He bottom-lined it on page 9, saying: “The only reason I mention Satan’s stealing is to make us aware of his devices so we can recognize them and overcome them instead of letting them keep us from victory and success.”
Nehemiah 8:8-10 in the Amplified Bible, Classic Edition, says:
So they read from the Book of the Law of God distinctly, faithfully amplifying and giving the sense so that [the people] understood the reading.
And Nehemiah, who was the governor, and Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the peoplesaid to all of them, This day is holy to the Lord your God; mourn not nor weep. For all the people wept when they heard the words of the Law.
Then [Ezra] told them, Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet drink, and send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. And be not grieved and depressed, for the joy of the Lord is your strength and stronghold.
The joy of the Lord, according to this First Covenant scripture, is the answer for grief and depression. In the Second Covenant book of Philippians, the apostle Paul writes to the church at Philippi. Despite being in some terrible conditions, Paul still tells the Philippians 19 times to rejoice! Jesus said in John 16:22-24, Amplified Bible, Classic Edition:
So for the present you are also in sorrow (in distress and depressed); but I will see you again and [then] your hearts will rejoice, and no one can take from you your joy (gladness, delight).
And when that time comes, you will ask nothing of Me [you will need to ask Me no questions]. I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, that My Father will grant you whatever you ask in My Name [as presenting all that I AM].
Up to this time you have not asked a [single] thing in My Name [as presenting all that I AM]; but now ask and keep on asking and you will receive, so that your joy (gladness, delight) may be full and complete.
Carolyn, and all the Savelle family, are about the Master’s (Jesus’) business through the legacy of grace, joy, and faith handed down by their patriarch, Jerry Savelle.
They walk by faith, and not by sight! I know, I was there!
But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplishes] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness, gentleness (meekness, humility), self-control (self-restraint, continence). Against such things there is no law [that can bring a charge] (Galatians 5:22-23, AMPC).
